Power supply and protection of power circuits in industrial automation systems are increasingly based on advanced devices, which have a significant advantage over traditional ones: they offer high efficiency with minimized dimensions. They are also characterized by exceptional durability.

The company Omron constantly introduces innovative solutions to modern industrial installations. Recently, we have added such products to the TME catalog: compact AC/DC power supplies of the S8VK series and electronic, programmable S8V-CP fuses. Both groups are described below, highlighting individual product groups with specific characteristics, including designed to power IoT devices, high power loads or adapted for installation in limited space.

Omron power supplies and fuses

S8VK power supply offer

AC/DC converters are today an essential element of industrial installations – they serve to power sensors, control circuits, executive elements and other components. They must not only withstand difficult environmental conditions, remain resistant to interference, but also provide stable voltage for all receivers. Omron power supplies have been designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding systems.

Compact DIN rail power supplies

The S8VK power supply group is a diverse range of products. All have been made for mounting on DIN rails and can be powered directly from the power grid. They also stand out for their high efficiency (up to 96%). Nevertheless, individual series within this range have additional properties specific to certain applications. For example, the S8VK-G and S8VK-S series consist of power supplies of exceptionally compact dimensions, for installation in small control cabinets or switchboards. They can be powered by voltages from 85V to 264V AC (or from 90V to 350V DC) and provide 5V, 12V 24V or 48V DC output current up to 20A. Overall, the power of devices from these series ranges from 15W to 480W. Like all the power supplies described here, they are equipped with protections: overload (OPP), overvoltage (OVP) and short-circuit (SCP).

In the case of the S series, higher power models can also signal the occurrence of too low voltage. Since the circuits of these power supplies are covered with a coating layer, they are resistant to dust, corrosive gases and humidity. The S8VK-S power supplies offer push-in plus terminals for easy wiring and exceptional vibration resistance.

Power supplies for IoT applications

The S8VK-X models are made to power IoT devices (Internet of Things) and are compatible with installations using Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP standards. They are made in accordance with the EN/IEC 61558-2-16 standard referring to the safety of general-purpose power supply devices. To enable the execution of small-sized installations, at temperatures not exceeding 55°C they can be placed one module next to the other. Full thermal tolerance for a single power supply ranges from -40°C to 70°C. These models come in versions with power 30…480W.

Three-phase power supplies

The highest power is achieved by three-phase power supplies, S8VK-T and S8VK-WB. Within these series, models with power up to 960W are available. At their input, a voltage of 320…576V AC or 450…810V DC is required. They provide voltages 24V or 48V DC with a current reaching 40A at an efficiency of 93…96%.

WB models are also characterized by exceptional mechanical resistance (vibrations with acceleration up to 5G), and at the same time they can be mounted in tight spaces, adjacent to each other. For reliable start-up of devices with high inrush currents or to cope with short peak, power supplies are capable of temporarily delivering 150% of their nominal power (120% in the case of the S8VK-T series).

Electronic fuses

ECB modules, or electronic fuses (Electronic Circuit Breakers), are programmable overcurrent breakers, whose threshold can be adjusted. In the case of S8V-CP models, the range of settings reaches from 2A to 10A. A single device can handle 4 or 8 channels. The device reduces the risk of circuit overload by sequentially switching on the outputs. The operation and state of the fuses are signaled by clear, multicolored LEDs located on the front panel. Moreover, the status of the breaker and its reconnection can be handled by external elements, thanks to interface connectors.

S8V-CP fuses are used to protect DC circuits with a voltage range from 20V to 30V with a model available that complies with UL Class 2 output requirements. Like the power supplies described above, these are DIN-mount modules, small in size (width 42…44.8mm) and resistant to a wide range of temperatures (-25…70°C).
