Saelig Company, has introduced the EECL SMX series, a configurable switch matrix system capable of handling RF signals up to 30GHz, featuring as many as 8 common ports and 48 switched ports. These high-speed RF matrices are controlled via USB or Ethernet and are designed for flexible, high-performance signal routing using a full cross-bar architecture, allowing any common port to connect to any I/O port in dual-path configurations.
Built with solid-state technology, the system supports bidirectional signal paths across a wide frequency range from 16kHz to 12GHz (and up to 30GHz depending on configuration), while maintaining low insertion and return loss. Each port is DC-blocked and can withstand up to 16V, making the unit suitable for demanding RF test environments. Unlike mechanical switches, all ports remain matched to 50 ohms at all times—including unused ports—ensuring excellent impedance matching, particularly useful for vector network analyzer (VNA) extension applications.
The design includes precision thermal control via an internal oven to maintain long-term stability and limit signal drift to under 0.02 dB. All signal paths are equalized in length to ensure consistent phase and amplitude performance. The system is well suited for applications such as de-embedding test setups and multi-port time-domain reflectometry (TDR) measurements, while providing high channel-to-channel isolation of over 80 dB. Custom configurations are also available on request.
Equipped with SMA on the 12GHz version and 2.92mm connectors for the 30GHz version, the switch matrix is suitable for automated test environments, with the added flexibility of USB and Ethernet control interfaces. For time-sensitive applications, the switch matrix supports the loading of predefined switching sequences, which can be triggered by logic signals, achieving rapid switching with microsecond-level timing. The module is also capable of standalone operation, powered directly through USB.
EECL’s software suite seamlessly integrates with the modules, providing a powerful and user-friendly interface for configuring and controlling the system. Compatible with C, LabView, Python and MATLAB, the software allows for the automation of complex tasks and real-time data acquisition. Users can set up measurement configurations through an intuitive dashboard. Advanced features include automated script execution and customizable trigger conditions for precise timing. The software also supports remote access via Ethernet or USB, enabling control from any networked location, ideal for both lab-based setups and large-scale distributed testing environments.
