EPC Begins Mass Production of 100V GaN Power ICs

Integrated GaN FETs, drivers and protection support compact, high-efficiency motor drives for robotics, drones and other applications.

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has started mass production of its new 100V integrated GaN power-stage IC family, featuring the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. Designed for demanding motion-control systems, these devices combine high efficiency, fast switching, and high power density in compact packages.

The monolithic ePower Stage ICs combine high-side and low-side enhancement-mode GaN FETs with integrated gate drivers and level-shifting circuits. Available in thermally optimized QFN packages, the devices support voltages up to 100V and current ratings of 35A or 20A. This integration enables designers to create smaller inverter stages while minimizing the need for external components.

By placing the power switches and driver circuitry in one device, EPC aims to reduce interconnects and parasitic effects, enabling faster switching and improved power density. The ICs also include protection functions such as fast fault shutdown, controlled gate operation during power interruptions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation.

Selected devices feature a single-input PWM interface, helping simplify control designs for multi-axis motor applications. This architecture is particularly beneficial for compact systems such as robotics, where several motors must operate within limited space.

EPC has also launched four three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards: the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131. Each board is built around one of the new EPC23108/09/10/11 power-stage ICs and includes essential supporting functions such as current and voltage sensing, auxiliary power, temperature monitoring, gate driving, and protection circuitry.

The evaluation platforms provide engineers with complete three-phase inverter solutions for testing the integrated GaN technology in motor-control applications. By eliminating the need to develop supporting circuitry from the ground up, these boards can help accelerate prototyping and system-level testing.

The EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 are now available through EPC’s worldwide distribution network, with production volumes increasing. Target applications include humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical systems, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC/DC converters.

Alongside the products, EPC has published a technical white paper detailing the integrated power-stage architecture, design considerations, and evaluation techniques. The material is intended to help engineers develop advanced robotics, drone, and motor-drive systems.

The move into mass production expands EPC’s integrated GaN portfolio with a scalable solution for compact, efficient motor drives and other high-frequency power-conversion applications.
