Würth Elektronik has expanded its optoelectronics range with the WL-OCHS, a high-speed optocoupler designed to transfer digital signals between electrically isolated circuit sections. The component combines fast signal transmission, galvanic isolation, and strong immunity to electromagnetic interference, making it suitable for electrically demanding applications.
The WL-OCHS supports data rates ranging from 1 MBd to 10 MBd and offers an isolation voltage of up to 5,000 VRMS. Depending on the device variant, its tpHL and tpLH switching times range from 100 ns to 1,500 ns, enabling faster signal transmission than many conventional optocouplers.
One of its key advantages is its high common-mode transient immunity (CMTI). This allows the device to preserve dependable signal transmission even when rapid voltage changes occur between its input and output sides. Such conditions are common in electrically noisy systems and fast-switching power electronics.
The optocoupler uses a copper leadframe that enhances resistance to corrosion and other environmental effects. This construction helps improve the component’s durability in demanding operating environments.
The WL-OCHS can be used with a variety of digital interfaces, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, and DSPs. It also supports serial communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, and RS-232/RS-485. These capabilities make it suitable for measurement and control equipment, industrial electronics, and automation systems.
The component is also designed for applications where galvanic isolation and dependable signal integrity are essential. Potential uses include medical equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and industrial automation systems, where isolated circuit domains must communicate reliably.
By bringing together high-speed operation, galvanic isolation, and high CMTI, the WL-OCHS is aimed at embedded and industrial applications that require dependable communication across electrically separated circuits while maintaining fast switching performance.
The new optocoupler is currently available from Würth Elektronik, with free samples offered to developers upon request.
