Bharat FIH Opens R&D Center For 5G Devices at IIT Madras

Foxconn’s Bharat FIH has opened a research and development centre at the IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai. Formerly known as Rising Stars, the company plans to design end-to-end 5G devices at this research center.

“Our India R&D will capitalise on our manufacturing strengths and collaborate with our global teams under the Foxconn Technology Group in product design, cost optimisation, customer experience, sourcing, tooling and manufacturing,” said Foulger, MD & country head, Bharat FIH.

The company notes this research center as the first among R&D centers dedicated to developing 5G devices in India. The center will offer product design, tooling and moulding, global sourcing and manufacturing services for smartphones and other products and services in the electronics segment.

It is to be noted here that Bharat FIH curently makes devices for the likes of Xiaomi and Nokia. Bharat FIH R&D centre. as the company noted, will operate in four domains including industrial, mechanical, hardware and software design. The same will also be aligned to help translate customer requirements into product specifications for all electronic products.

Dixon Technologies, another electronics manufacturing company, had recently shipped first 5g mobile device made at one of its facilities to the United States of America. Both Bharat FIH and Dixon technologies are participants in one of the PLI schemes being run by the government of India.
