ITEN has produced its one-millionth solid-state battery and expanded its Powency range with a new 1,500 μAh surface-mount battery. Offering six times the capacity of its existing 250 μAh model, the new device is designed for compact electronics that need greater energy storage and higher peak currents.
The milestone highlights ITEN’s manufacturing capabilities, covering nanomaterial production, electrode manufacturing, battery assembly, packaging, testing and quality assurance. Its pilot facility in Dardilly, France, opened in April 2024 after a €14 million investment and has an annual production capacity exceeding 30 million solid-state micro-batteries.
ITEN’s technology uses proprietary nanomaterials and ceramic electrodes while removing the liquid electrolyte found in conventional batteries. Its low-temperature manufacturing approach is designed to maintain material performance while increasing electrode surface area, supporting high power output in compact battery formats that can be mounted directly onto electronic assemblies.
The new Powency 1,500 μAh battery is aimed at applications requiring extended operating or backup periods and higher current pulses. It supports wireless technologies such as UWB, LoRa and Bluetooth Low Energy, with potential uses across IoT and medical devices. Samples are currently available, while volume production is expected by the end of 2026.
The battery can also complement energy-harvesting systems by providing backup power when harvested energy temporarily drops. Potential applications include smart-home sensors, building automation, asset tracking, NFC smart labels, remote controls and connected healthcare products.
Its compact size and low weight could also benefit tracking solutions, including wildlife-monitoring devices. In healthcare, ITEN sees opportunities in space-constrained products such as smart orthodontic devices and diagnostic systems requiring compact, safe and reliable energy storage with sufficient peak power.
