Rohde & Schwarz, a global leader in mobile network testing services, is proud to announce its collaboration with Telia, one of the leading network operators in Estonia and one of the best in the world. This partnership enhances mobile network quality through a comprehensive mobile network benchmarking campaign. Here, Rohde & Schwarz is providing critical insights into mobile network performance, which enable Telia Estonia to further optimize their network and enhance user experience.
Telia Estonia has commissioned Rohde & Schwarz to conduct a nationwide mobile network quality benchmarking campaign, leveraging the company’s expertise and experience in the area of mobile network testing.
This is the second year in a row that Telia Estonia has engaged Rohde & Schwarz to plan and implement the benchmarking campaign using the Network Performance Score (NPS) in line with ETSI TR 103 559, to assess the quality of voice and data services in mobile networks. This initiative aims to provide Telia with critical insights into their network performance, enabling them to further optimize the network and enhance user experience.
In September 2024, Rohde & Schwarz undertook an extensive benchmarking campaign in Estonia, evaluating the performance of the country’s three mobile network operators: Elisa, Tele2, and Telia. The campaign spanned the entire country, covering approx. 6,500 km of its main cities, Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu, Narva, and Kohtla-Järve, as well as smaller towns and the connecting roads between them.
The comprehensive assessment involved conducting over 12,000 voice calls and more than 148,000 data tests, adhering to the rigorous standards set by ITU-T and ETSI to accurately reflect the typical user experience on Estonia’s mobile networks.
The results of the benchmarking measurements indicate a substantial improvement in the average speed of mobile internet in Estonia over the past year, largely attributed to the ongoing advancements in 5G network technology.
Notably, all three Estonian mobile networks – Elisa, Tele2, and Telia – achieved impressive scores, with each exceeding 700 points out of a possible 1000. Telia emerged as the top performer, securing a Network Performance Score of 825 points, a distinction that ranks them among the world’s leading mobile networks.
“We are excited to partner with Telia on this important project,” said Axel Hansmann, CEO Rohde & Schwarz Swissqual AG at Rohde & Schwarz. “Our collaboration is not only providing Telia with invaluable insights into their network performance but also contributes to the overall improvement of mobile network quality in Estonia. The significant increase in mobile internet speeds and Telia’s top ranking in our benchmarking campaign demonstrate the effectiveness of our partnership and the quality of Telia’s network.
“We assisted the customer in a previous service campaign, where we provided tailored improvement recommendations, utilizing Rohde & Schwarz’ advanced equipment for measurements. This enabled Telia to significantly enhance their performance,” he explained.
Telia’s Chief Technology Officer, Andre Visse, highlighted that Rohde & Schwarz analysis reinforces the strong quality of mobile services across Estonia: “Telia’s 5G network now reaches over 90% of the Estonian population, and the findings from Rohde & Schwarz demonstrate that our significant investments in mobile networks are truly paying off. Telia customers enjoy superior voice and data services with the fastest data transfer speeds. Furthermore, the report affirms our standing among the world’s top mobile operators, a recognition we have consistently achieved in similar studies. Our commitment to delivering world-class quality to our customers is evident in these results, showing we are moving in the right direction.”
