Cirrus Logic is expanding its long-term partnership with GlobalFoundries to speed up the development of more efficient, powerful, and reliable semiconductor technologies. This collaboration aims to enhance everyday devices like smartphones and cars by improving their performance and energy efficiency.
A key focus is advancing next-generation BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process technology, which combines multiple functions on a single chip. This allows devices to be smaller and more power-efficient. Production will take place at GlobalFoundries’ facility in Malta, New York, adding a U.S.-based manufacturing option alongside their sites in Singapore and Germany.
This expanded partnership supports Cirrus Logic’s goal to provide cutting-edge mixed-signal solutions to its main markets while strengthening the resilience and geographic diversity of semiconductor supply chains for customers worldwide.
Additionally, Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries are collaborating to accelerate innovation in Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology at GlobalFoundries’ Essex Junction, Vermont site. The GaN-on-silicon platform, known for high power density and handling high voltages, offers significant efficiency and power management advantages for consumer and industrial uses. This effort will help Cirrus Logic expand its mixed-signal and power technology offerings, opening up new technical possibilities and market opportunities.
