Infineon Technologies AG has expanded its EiceDRIVER portfolio with the introduction of the 1EDI3040AS and 1EDI3041AS, a new series of reinforced isolated gate-driver ICs designed for battery electric vehicle (BEV) traction inverter applications. Compatible with both IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET power devices, the new drivers help maximize power-stage performance while improving overall system efficiency.

By integrating a wide range of essential functions into a single IC, the EiceDRIVER family reduces the need for additional external components. This streamlined design enables automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to simplify inverter control electronics, lower system complexity, and reduce bill-of-materials (BOM) costs.

“Infineon combines traction inverter system know how with a differentiating portfolio spanning OPTIREG™ PMICs, AURIX microcontrollers, EiceDRIVER gate drivers, and HybridPACK™ SiC modules at the power stage,” said Andreas Doll, Senior Vice President and General Manager Smart Power at Infineon. “Our deep expertise and extensive product range enable us to integrate key functions directly in the gate driver, allowing customers to achieve higher inverter efficiency and increased performance combined with more compact layouts and shorter design cycles.”

The new EiceDRIVER family features a multi-level slew rate control that enables precise switching during different driving conditions such as acceleration, cruising, and others. This allows to reduce inverter losses by up to 35 percent over drive cycles such as WLTP. Dynamic boost modes minimize dead times, further reducing losses and total harmonic distortion (THD). In addition, the 1EDI3040AS variant integrates a closed-loop flyback controller with 2 percent regulation that allows on-the-fly adjustment of the secondary supply (VCC2). This enables designers to adjust the gate supply for optimized efficiency and performance across operating conditions, lowering the SiC RDS(on) and increasing the peak current capability while reducing the number of external components.

Additional features include DESAT protection with digital filtering for sub-microsecond response times and power device state monitoring. An integrated SPI interface enables configuration and diagnostics, supported by a 6-channel 11-bit ADC. The devices are ISO 26262 ASIL-D-compliant and available in a compact PG-LFDSO-36 package.

To accelerate implementation, Infineon provides a comprehensive suite of design resources including safety documentation, application notes, simulation models, evaluation boards, a configuration tool, supporting software, as well as application examples. As a key component of Infineon’s system offering for electric vehicle traction inverters, the new drivers help accelerate efficient, reliable powertrain designs.
