ABLIC Inc., a part of MinebeaMitsumi Inc., has launched its newest product, the S-19230/1 Series—a high-voltage automotive regulator IC that sets a new industry standard with the lowest operating current. This regulator also features advanced safety functions and supports a wide range of battery voltages, designed to meet the evolving needs of modern vehicles.

As automotive electronics—from various ECUs to infotainment systems—demand more power, the industry is shifting from traditional 12V auxiliary batteries to a 48V system. Increasing the voltage to 48V reduces the current needed to power components by about 75%, allowing for thinner wiring harnesses. This change helps reduce vehicle weight, improves fuel efficiency, and enhances energy performance in both gasoline and electric vehicles.

The S-19230/1 Series supports 12V, 24V, and 48V auxiliary batteries thanks to its high input voltage tolerance of up to 80V. It achieves an ultra-low operating current of just 2.0µA—the lowest in the market—making it ideal for powering always-on devices like sensors and CAN/LIN transceivers while keeping standby power consumption minimal.

A standout feature of this regulator is ABLIC’s first open-loop protection circuit, which safeguards against wiring faults between the IC and the external resistor that sets output voltage. If a disconnection occurs, this circuit automatically limits any voltage spike to a safe level. By incorporating this protection internally, the regulator removes the need for extra external components typically required for overvoltage protection, reducing cost and saving space while boosting system safety.

Key Highlights of the S-19230/1 Series

  • Unprecedentedly Low Current Consumption: Achieves an operating current of just 2.0µA, effectively lowering standby current in automotive systems where sensors and transceivers must operate continuously.
  • High Input Voltage Endurance: With an input tolerance of up to 80V, the device accommodates 48V battery systems and, for applications with an output current of 10mA or less, it also supports 24V and 12V systems with a minimum operating voltage of 3.0V.
  • Integrated Open-Loop Protection Circuit: Provides automatic suppression of abnormal voltage rise in the case of wiring faults, removing the necessity for external protection components and enabling safer, more compact, and cost-efficient designs.
  • Automotive-Grade Reliability: Subjected to three-temperature testing (low, normal, and high), the regulator is being prepared to meet the rigorous AEC-Q100 standards established by the Automotive Electronics Council. PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) support is also planned, ensuring suitability for demanding automotive environments.

With the introduction of the S-19230/1 Series, ABLIC strengthens its portfolio of automotive power solutions, delivering regulators that are not only energy-efficient and compact but also aligned with the growing shift toward higher voltage vehicle architectures.
