Infineon Technologies AG has reinforced its position as the world’s top automotive semiconductor supplier, securing the number one spot for the sixth year in a row, according to TechInsights’ 2025 market report. The company has also widened its lead over competitors, highlighting its strong role as a trusted partner in the fast-changing automotive sector.
Peter Schaefer, Infineon’s Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for Automotive, noted that this continued leadership reflects the company’s commitment to customers and its ability to meet growing demands in areas like software-defined vehicles and electric drivetrains. He also emphasized that Infineon’s strong performance in key segments, such as microcontrollers, showcases its innovation, while its top rankings across major global regions demonstrate the confidence customers place in the company.
Global market leadership with a strong footprint across all key regions
- According to TechInsights, the global automotive semiconductor market grew to 74.4 billion US dollars in 2025 (2024: 69.9 billion [2]). Infineon, which climbed to the top spot in the market for the first time in 2020, achieved this leading position once again and reached a market share of 12.8 percent (2024: 13.2 percent [2]), slightly increasing the distance to the second-placed competitor in the market.This success is based on a strong footprint across all important automotive regions in the world: In China, the world’s largest automotive semiconductor market, as well as in Europe and South Korea, Infineon confirmed its regional market leadership, increasing the distance to the second-placed competitors in Europe and China. In North America and Japan, the company came in second and significantly narrowed the gap to the respective market leaders.
Further growth in microcontrollers reflects commitment to automotive innovation
In the strategically important domain of automotive microcontrollers, Infineon extended its leadership significantly once again. The company’s market share rose to 36.0 percent in 2025 – up 3.9 percentage points year-on-year, further widening the gap to the next competitor.
Microcontrollers play a decisive role in key automotive innovation areas. Among other things, they ensure precise and efficient operation of electric drivetrains, enable safe and secured real-time decision-making in advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving and are cornerstones in the electric/electronic architectures that allow software and feature updates in software-defined vehicles.
Since 2020, Infineon has consistently held the top global position in the automotive semiconductor space, underpinned by a clear focus on system innovation and the ability to deliver to the needs of carmakers and Tier 1 suppliers across all continents. The latest TechInsights data confirms Infineon’s strong performance and ongoing market leadership through cycles of technological transformation.
