Microchip Technology has broadened its industrial Power over Ethernet (PoE) lineup with the new PD-9601GCI, a rugged single-port midspan built to streamline the deployment of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices. Supporting the IEEE 802.3bt PoE standard, it delivers up to 90 W of power while providing Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over a single Ethernet cable, allowing both power and data to be transmitted without requiring changes to existing network switches.

PoE has become an important technology in industrial automation by reducing installation costs and complexity, as it removes the need for separate power cables. Positioned between a network switch and a powered device, a midspan injector adds power to the Ethernet connection while keeping the existing network infrastructure intact. This enables seamless deployment of cameras, sensors, wireless access points, and other connected industrial equipment without replacing current Ethernet switches.

Engineered for demanding industrial environments, the PD-9601GCI expands Microchip’s portfolio beyond indoor PoE solutions. It operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 75°C and features an IP30-rated metal enclosure designed to withstand vibration and harsh operating conditions typically found in factories and outdoor industrial settings.

The device supports dual 20 V to 60 V DC power inputs, offering power redundancy for improved system reliability. Enhanced surge protection safeguards the unit against electrical disturbances, ensuring dependable performance in electrically noisy environments. Flexible installation options, including DIN rail, wall, and panel mounting, make it suitable for a wide range of industrial control cabinets and enclosures.

To further simplify deployment, Microchip has verified compatibility with a variety of industrial automation equipment, helping reduce integration challenges. By combining high-power PoE, Gigabit networking, and industrial-grade durability into a single solution, the PD-9601GCI enables equipment manufacturers to deliver reliable plug-and-play PoE systems for distributed and remote industrial applications.

The new product strengthens Microchip’s comprehensive PoE portfolio, which includes power sourcing equipment (PSE), powered device (PD) chipsets, and complete PoE solutions. The PD-9601GCI is available now for production use in industrial automation, smart infrastructure, and other applications requiring robust high-power Ethernet connectivity.
