Among the TME offer, available are, among others, LED diodes from Refond, one of the recognized producers of optoelectronic components. Products of this brand are used in consumer electronics, classic lighting, and automotive solutions. In the article, we will closely examine selected elements from the rich offer of the Refond brand
Electroluminescent diodes, commonly called LEDs, are one of the most important elements of modern electronics. The significance of these elements, which operate based on the phenomenon of electroluminescence, i.e., the emission of light due to current flow through a semiconductor junction, is truly enormous. From simple indicator lamps in everyday devices, through backlighting of displays, to advanced lighting systems in industry and automotive sectors. LEDs are characterized by low energy consumption, long life, and compact construction, which has made them the standard in many fields, replacing traditional light sources.
Classic LEDs from Refond

LEDs are primarily classic elements of small size adapted for surface-mount SMD assembly. They come in a wide range of packages from 0402 to 5730 and more specialized mini PLCC2, PLCC4, PLCC6, and PLCC10. The diode lens can be yellow, transparent, or diffused in color. There are many available light emission colors: white in cold, warm, or neutral variants, red, green, blue, amber, orange, yellow, and infrared diodes. It is also worth mentioning many dual-color variants, which are mixtures of the previously mentioned colors, as well as RGB and RGBW diodes. The emission angle of the diodes depends on the specific specimen and ranges from 30° to 140°. The diode’s operating voltage and the current it consumes are strictly related to the light color, additionally, each element is described by a specific wavelength, temperature, and brightness value, which allows precise selection of the appropriate component.
The diode’s emission angle is 120°, and brightness ranges from 4…9lm

UV LEDs from Refond

UV-B diode with power of 0.8W
In the Refond portfolio, you can also find diodes emitting UV light, more precisely UV-B or UV-C. These elements are adapted for SMD mounting, and their emission angle is 120°. The diode lens is transparent, and the amount of emitted light depends on the specific specimen, ranging from 1mW to 50mW; however, it should be remembered that this is the radiation emission value, not the diode’s power itself, which is described in the range from 0.3W to 3.8W.

IR LEDs and optocouplers from Refond
Refond also supplies components used in detection and communication systems, such as infrared (IR) diodes and optocouplers. IR diodes emit radiation with wavelengths in the range of 830–940nm, making them ideal for use in remote controls, optical barriers, or motion detectors. They offer stable operating parameters and are adapted for SMD assembly, making them easy to integrate into modern electronic designs.

Refond optocouplers available at TME are circuits with input operating voltages of 1.2…1.5V DC, characterized by fast response times and high reliability. Thanks to a compact SMD package and galvanic isolation, they allow safe signal transfer between different circuit sections, protecting sensitive electronics from interference and surges. They are used in control systems, household appliances, industrial automation, and switch-mode power supplies.
