TDK Corporation has expanded its aluminum electrolytic capacitor lineup with new 125 V versions of the B43693/B43793 axial and soldering-star series. At the same time, the company has enhanced its existing 63 V B41687/B41787 family. The new and upgraded devices are designed for compact DC-link capacitor banks that require high ripple-current capability in automotive and industrial power electronics, particularly in systems operating from 48 V to 120 V battery architectures.
With a 125 V rating, the new capacitors enable higher DC-link voltages to be handled with a single component instead of connecting several capacitors in series. This approach can simplify capacitor-bank designs, reduce the number of components and improve system reliability. The devices are well suited to 96 V electrical systems, where space constraints, high temperatures and rapidly varying loads place significant demands on energy-storage and buffering components.
The B43693/B43793 series can handle ripple currents of up to 21.6 A and operate at temperatures reaching +140°C. Available capacitance values range from 56 µF to 650 µF, while case dimensions extend from 16 × 25 mm to 21 × 49 mm. The upgraded B41687/B41787 family uses the same axial and soldering-star construction, allowing designers to maintain a common mechanical approach across different voltage ratings. These capacitors support operating temperatures of up to +150°C and offer capacitance values between 510 µF and 4,800 µF.
Both series feature low equivalent series resistance (ESR), helping minimize power losses and improve thermal performance in DC-link circuits for inverters and other power-conversion equipment. Their rugged mechanical design provides vibration resistance of up to 20 g as standard, while versions rated for as much as 60 g can be supplied on request.
The combination of axial leads and soldering-star terminals also gives designers greater mounting flexibility. Depending on the application, the capacitors can be installed horizontally or vertically on printed circuit boards or busbars, making them suitable for demanding automotive and industrial power-electronics environments.
TDK has also optimized the thermal performance of the 125 V series. When mounted to an appropriate heat sink, the capacitors can achieve more than twice their standard ripple current rating. For example, an 18 × 30 mm device rated for 5.2 A ripple current at an ambient temperature of +105°C can handle up to 11.1 A when its aluminum case is maintained at the same temperature through effective heat sinking. This enables smaller capacitor banks, fewer components and lower assembly costs while maintaining long-term reliability.
The new capacitor series targets applications including automotive electronics, micromobility inverters, forklifts, industrial equipment and humanoid robots, where high power density, compact size and reliable operation under harsh conditions are key design requirements.
