Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) has begun offering engineering samples of the TB9104FTG, a gate driver designed for bridge circuits in high-current automotive brushed DC motors. This driver is ideal for body system applications such as power back doors, sliding doors, windows, and seats.
As vehicles increasingly rely on electrified movable components, the number of motors—and corresponding drivers—has grown, creating demand for smaller, more efficient systems that reduce wiring harnesses and vehicle weight.
The TB9104FTG comes in a compact VQFN32 package (5.0 × 5.0 mm) with an exposed thermal pad for improved heat dissipation. When paired with external MOSFETs, it enables a space-saving drive circuit for high-current brushed DC motors.
For microcontroller interfacing, the driver includes a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), allowing configuration, status monitoring, and motor control commands via SPI or dedicated pins. Multiple TB9104FTG devices can share the SPI bus, helping reduce wiring complexity.
The device also integrates a PWM drive circuit, enabling continuous motor operation with a single rotation command, which reduces microcontroller workload and SPI bus congestion.
Safety is a key feature: a high-precision current sense amplifier monitors motor current, allowing the microcontroller to halt operation if abnormal currents occur. Additional built-in protections include detection for low supply voltage, overvoltage in the charge pump, overheating, MOSFET VDS errors, and SPI errors.
Toshiba plans to expand its automotive motor driver lineup, supporting further vehicle electrification and enhanced system safety.
