Vishay Intertechnology, has launched two new thin-film chip fuse families designed to combine low resistance with consistent, reliable operation. The Vishay Sfernice S2F and S3F series are built to carry current normally under standard conditions and to disconnect the circuit safely when an overcurrent situation arises.
With options for fast-acting and very fast-acting response, the new fuses allow engineers to select protection behavior that best matches their specific design needs.
The devices are offered in small 0402, 0603, and 1206 surface-mount packages and comply with UL 248-14 requirements. They support current ratings from 0.315 A to 7 A, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
Both fuse series are optimized for very low resistance while limiting temperature rise to less than 75 °C at full rated current. This helps ensure dependable long-term performance, even in compact and thermally constrained designs.
The components are also lead-free, halogen-free, and fully compliant with RoHS regulations, aligning with modern environmental standards.
The key distinction between the two series is their response time under a 200% overload condition. The S2F series interrupts the circuit in under one minute, whereas the S3F series reacts much faster, opening the circuit in less than five seconds. This gives designers precise control over protection sensitivity.
Together, the S2F and S3F families offer a wide selection of current ratings, clearly defined fusing characteristics, and multiple package options, balancing flexibility, reliability, and cost efficiency. They are well suited for secondary circuit protection in many electronic systems where precision, stability, and consistent operation are critical.
Samples and production volumes of the Vishay Sfernice S2F and S3F thin-film chip fuses are available now, with standard lead times of approximately 16 weeks.
