Apex Microtechnology Broadens Precision Power Op-Amp Lineup

Apex Microtechnology has expanded its Precision IC lineup with three new power operational amplifiers: PA167, PA168, and PA169. These devices add to the company’s compact PQ family, offering high-voltage operation, enhanced thermal performance, and built-in protection for demanding precision and power-control applications.

All three amplifiers use Apex’s 20 mm × 20 mm PQ package, making them suitable for space-constrained, high-density designs. Compared with earlier models, the new devices provide up to 20% better thermal performance and expanded output-current options. Standard and A-grade variants give designers more flexibility when selecting performance and system configurations.

The PA167 is designed for applications requiring high voltage and strong current density. Its monolithic MOSFET amplifier supports supply voltages up to 205 V, with continuous output current of 1 A in the standard version and 2 A in the A-grade version. Peak output current can reach 6 A, while internal power dissipation is rated up to 33 W.

For higher-current applications, the PA168 supports operation up to 200 V, delivering 8 A continuous and 12 A peak output current. It can handle up to 52 W of internal power dissipation and uses separate supplies for its signal amplifier and output stage, helping designers optimize voltage swing and improve system efficiency.

The PA169 integrates two independent high-voltage amplifier channels into a single 52-pin QFP package. Each channel supports operation up to 200 V with 2 A continuous and 6 A peak output current, while the device offers a total internal power dissipation of 52 W. The dual-channel architecture makes the amplifier suitable for systems requiring multiple high-performance outputs without increasing PCB footprint.

All three devices are based on Apex’s monolithic MOS technology and integrate protection functions including temperature-compensated current limiting, overcurrent status indication, and amplifier disable capability. These features improve system reliability while reducing the need for external protection circuitry.

Typical applications include high-density voltage and current sources, electrostatic transducers, beam and mirror deflection systems, deformable mirror control, piezoelectric positioning equipment and other precision motion-control systems that require compact, high-voltage power amplifiers with robust thermal performance. The PA167, PA168 and PA169 are available in volume production, with evaluation samples offered for qualified applications.
