Cambridge GaN Devices (CGD) has named Fabio Necco as its new Chief Executive Officer, a move intended to support the company’s growth in key target markets. He takes over the CEO role from CGD co-founder Giorgia Longobardi, who will step into the position of Chief Marketing Officer while continuing to play an active role in guiding the company’s strategic direction.

Necco joins CGD from US semiconductor firm onsemi, a global provider of intelligent power and sensing technologies, where he held the roles of vice president and division general manager. With more than 25 years of industry experience, he brings deep expertise in power electronics, application engineering, vehicle electrification, and data center technologies—areas that closely match CGD’s market focus and long-term ambitions.

CGD specializes in highly energy-efficient gallium nitride (GaN) devices that help power electronics engineers create more sustainable and efficient systems. Together with the flexibility of CGD’s established fabless business model, these capabilities position the company well to benefit from strong and growing demand for GaN-based solutions across multiple markets.

A key differentiator for CGD is its ICeGaN technology, which uses a monolithic, single-chip design that integrates all critical components on one die. This architecture delivers notable improvements in efficiency and performance compared with more complex multi-chip GaN alternatives.

Thanks to this design approach, CGD provides compact, engineer-friendly GaN power devices that combine advanced innovation with practical usability. The technology is well suited to application-specific needs such as traction and auxiliary inverters in electric vehicles, as well as a wide range of industrial power conversion applications. Features such as bare-die options, straightforward integration, robust gate structures, and reliable parallel operation further enhance its versatility.

Alongside her new role as Chief Marketing Officer, Giorgia Longobardi will remain a Director on CGD’s Board and continue her involvement with the International Semiconductor Industry Group (I.S.I.G.) as a member of its Advisory Board.

Fabio Necco’s appointment as CEO is effective immediately.
