Onsemi has entered into an agreement with Aura Semiconductor to acquire the rights to its Vcore power technologies. This acquisition aims to enhance onsemi’s power management capabilities, especially to address the demanding power needs of AI data centers.

Vcore technology is designed to provide rapid transient response, higher current density, and better thermal performance—key factors for powering advanced CPUs, GPUs, and AI accelerators within data centers. The deal also includes related intellectual property licenses, giving onsemi expanded expertise in core power delivery. By integrating these technologies, onsemi plans to boost its ability to offer comprehensive power management solutions tailored for AI infrastructure.

Onsemi highlights that adding Aura’s Vcore solutions will complement its existing silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) product lines, which cover components like solid-state transformers, power supplies, 800 VDC distribution, and core power delivery systems. The combined technologies are expected to enable more efficient, compact, and thermally optimized AI data center designs, increasing compute power per rack.

Sudhir Gopalswamy, Group President of Intelligent Sensing and Analog and Mixed-Signal at onsemi, emphasized that this acquisition reinforces the company’s dedication to meeting future energy and efficiency challenges in AI data centers by providing a full suite of smart power solutions.

With this move, onsemi is expanding its capabilities from grid-level power management to the compute core level, positioning itself among the few companies able to deliver end-to-end power solutions for next-gen data centers. The company anticipates minimal impact on earnings per share during the first fiscal year after closing, with earnings growth expected afterward. The transaction is projected to finalize in the last quarter of 2025, pending customary closing conditions.
