Stackpole Launches Low-VCR High-Voltage Chip Resistors

Stackpole Electronics has unveiled its RVCU series of high-voltage chip resistors for precision voltage divider, sensing, and measurement applications requiring stable performance under fluctuating voltage and environmental conditions.

Designed specifically for high-voltage divider circuits, the RVCU series minimizes resistance changes caused by applied voltage, helping maintain accurate measurements. Stackpole reports that the resistors deliver a voltage coefficient of resistance (VCR) between 25 and 50 ppm, depending on the resistance value, offering a major improvement over standard high-voltage chip resistors that can reach VCR levels of 300 ppm or more.

With reduced VCR-related inaccuracies, the RVCU series is engineered to provide enhanced precision and long-term reliability in demanding high-voltage systems.

The resistors are available in 1206, 2010, and 2512 package sizes, supporting maximum working voltages from 800 V up to 3000 V based on the package type. They also offer resistance tolerances as low as 0.5% and feature a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 100 ppm for stable operation across varying temperatures.

Stackpole added that the RVCU series uses anti-sulfur construction compliant with ASTM B-905-5 standards, improving durability in harsh environments. The resistors also meet IEC 62368 requirements for resistance values between 75 kΩ and 27 MΩ, making them suitable for audio/video and communications equipment.

The company recommends the RVCU series for compact high-voltage applications demanding consistent accuracy and long service life. Typical uses include high-voltage LED lighting, medical electronics, audio/video and communications systems, test and measurement equipment, and transmission or control systems utilizing high-voltage divider networks.

Stackpole further noted that the series supports AEC-compliant applications, extending its suitability to automotive and industrial systems where reliability and environmental resistance are critical. Pricing depends on package size, resistance value, and tolerance specifications.
