TDK Corporation has broadened its range of ultra-compact snap-in aluminum electrolytic capacitors for AI server power supplies and other high-power applications. The expanded B43645, B43657, B43658, B43659, B43660 and B43661 series now support rated DC voltages of up to 500V, making them suitable for high-voltage power-conversion systems, including high-performance switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), UPS equipment and solar inverters.
The capacitors are designed to deliver high voltage and capacitance within a small footprint. They are offered in diameters from 22mm to 35mm and lengths between 25mm and 100mm. Their high capacitance-to-volume ratio enables designers to save board space and achieve higher power density without compromising the electrical and thermal characteristics needed for continuous, demanding operation.
Across the expanded portfolio, capacitance ranges from 80µF to 2060µF, while ripple-current capability reaches as high as 5.39A. Depending on the model, the capacitors can provide a service life of up to 5,000 hours at 105°C. These specifications are suited to AI data-center power infrastructure, where increasing processor workloads are creating greater demands for compact power systems, higher power density and effective thermal management.
The devices use an ultra-compact CV design and are housed in durable aluminum cans covered with a PET sleeve. Snap-in terminals provide secure PCB installation, while a built-in pressure-relief feature helps protect the components under abnormal operating conditions. Most versions feature two terminals, with selected models incorporating three terminals to support proper orientation during assembly.
The capacitor series complies with RoHS requirements and has undergone vibration testing based on IEC 60068-2-6. This makes the components suitable for demanding industrial and power-electronics applications where mechanical reliability is important.
For power-system engineers, the combination of 500V voltage capability, high ripple-current performance and compact dimensions offers additional design flexibility for DC-link and energy-storage circuits. In AI server power supplies, the smaller component footprint can contribute to higher overall power density while supporting the continuous, heavy-load conditions common in data centers.
TDK also offers its web-based AlCap Tool to help engineers estimate capacitor lifetime under specific application conditions. By taking electrical and thermal operating stresses into account, the tool can provide an estimate of expected service life and assist designers in selecting suitable capacitors for their applications.
