Toshiba Launches 80V eFuse IC for 48V Protection

The TCKE1401NM combines multiple fault-protection functions, low on-resistance and a 4×4mm package for space-constrained designs.

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has launched the TCKE1401NM, an 80V eFuse IC designed to protect 24V, 48V, and 54V power lines in industrial equipment. Shipments have already started, adding a higher-voltage option to Toshiba’s eFuse portfolio.

The new device is aimed at systems increasingly adopting 48V power architectures, including servers, networking equipment, factory automation systems, robots, and other industrial platforms. It combines several protection functions in a compact package while supporting higher-voltage applications.

The TCKE1401NM operates from 4.7V to 75V and carries an 80V rating, providing additional voltage margin for systems running at up to 54V. Its typical 44.5mΩ on-resistance helps reduce conduction losses, while the 4.0 × 4.0mm VQFN24D package, with a maximum thickness of 0.9mm, enables space-efficient PCB designs.

Unlike traditional fuses, the eFuse integrates electronic protection functions into a semiconductor device. The TCKE1401NM offers adjustable overcurrent limiting and overvoltage shutdown, with thresholds set through external resistors. External MOSFETs can also enable reverse-current blocking and reverse-polarity protection.

The IC includes several monitoring features, such as a FLAG output for fault reporting, power-good monitoring, and output-current measurement. Thermal shutdown further protects the system by disabling the device during excessive temperatures or abnormal short-circuit conditions.

Designers can select between auto-retry and latch-off recovery modes depending on system requirements. The device is suitable for servers, networking equipment, industrial automation, robots, multifunction printers, power tools, and home appliances. Toshiba also plans to expand its eFuse lineup for additional power-protection applications.
